Autumn in Slovenian Istria

10. 9. 2025
When the summer heat fades and the crowds disperse, Slovenian Istria shines in a different light. Bathed in warm autumn colors and moving at a slower pace, it offers authentic experiences that take you on a cultural and musical journey through town streets, a culinary journey among vineyards and olive groves, and … much more.

Discover Slovenian Istria in a more intimate way – through cuisine, nature, and genuine people.

The autumn months bring an abundance of culinary experiences you simply can’t miss …

Altroke Sweet Istria (September 13, Koper) – the largest dessert festival in Slovenia, when Koper’s old town center is filled with the aromas of traditional Istrian sweets, chocolate, ice cream, and other sweet and savory delights.

Days of Venetian Cuisine (September 12–28, Izola) – selected local restaurants will prepare special menus by Izola’s top chefs, reviving Venetian culinary heritage with a touch of seafood and fresh local ingredients.

Pier of Tastes (September 20, Izola) – a popular culinary market that transforms Izola’s old marina and town pier into a true feast for the eyes and taste buds. Local chefs and producers will prepare seafood specialties and seasonal bites by the sea, accompanied by Istrian wines.

Soon, the much-anticipated Days of Calamari will follow, when selected restaurants will serve special dishes made from Istrian calamari for more than two weeks – from classic fried calamari to creative seasonal versions, with something for everyone to enjoy.

Our coastal town, where history and modern life meet on the sunny seaside promenade, has enchanted visitors for over a century with its unique blend of health, relaxation, and luxury. This year, it proudly celebrates a remarkable anniversary – 140 years of tourism.

Portorož remains at the heart of international tourism, and the jubilee will be celebrated on September 27, from 6 p.m. onwards, with culinary experiences, a concert by the legendary band Faraoni, and the awarding of the Tourism Excellence Emblem 2025.
