The lighting of the festive lights: when towns turn into a winter fairy tale

Festive December in the coastal towns begins with the lighting of thousands of holiday lights that transform town squares and streets into a true winter fairy tale. As part of The Sea of Winter Adventures, Portorož and Piran lit up as early as November, offering the most eager visitors the chance to explore the Christmas and New Year market and skate for the first time at the ice rink at Magazin Grando.

This is followed by the lighting of festive lights and the opening of the ice rink in Ankaran (4 December), the lighting of the lights and the opening of the Ice Island with the ice rink and festive stalls in Izola (5 December), and the lighting of the festive lights, the opening of Fantazima with an ice rink and amusement park, the Winter Village, Fairytale Street, Santa’s Post Office, and a visit from St. Nicholas in Koper (6 December).

The lighting ceremonies will also be accompanied by concerts and entertainment evenings – on 6 December, Koper will host a concert by Elvis Jackson and Free the Mouse, Gregor Ravnik will perform in Izola, and Ankaran will host a 90s dance night, the Raptus Party.
